The future of In Defense Of His Hands...

So I have been conflicted with where I want this blog to go. I could post albums all day but there's more I want to do with it. Plus I've been thinking differently about having all of these albums on here for everyone to download after a couple email conversations from a musician who's band is actually on the blog.

I love music. I love doing this blog. But I've been thinking it's time to move on. While listing all of my albums on Record Nerd I realized that I had a lot of stuff that I really don't like or at least I don't listen to. I have been spending too much money on albums I don't like. So I will be doing a little cleaning. This is good for you. I'll be selling some of these CDs on here pretty soon. I'd like to give my readers a chance to buy them before I sell them off in bulk.

This leads me to another point I have with stopping the current format for this blog, I don't just listen to Christian music. I don't even consider myself a Christian. All my friends look at me weird when I mention the fact that I have a Christian music blog. It's the music I was raised on but I was very into early emo, punk, hardcore and hip hop that isn't Christian too. I feel limited. I don't want to feel that way anymore.

So, what's next for IDOHH? I don't know for sure. We'll all find out together. Of course I know a lot of you won't be coming back if I'm not giving you free music. But maybe I will be....

The deal is, I'm not going to take any of these albums down until February 2nd. It's my day off and I'll be cleaning out my Mediafire account. So, you have until then to get what you want. After that it's a whole new ballgame. Maybe some interviews, free (legal) downloads, Streaming music, Christian and non-Christian music, sales, giveaways, anything really. I already feel more free to do what I want with this beast I've created.

I hope you all understand my decision. I know I might get some grumpy people but hey, go buy a CD! Get out there and support the artists when you're able to. Plus there's a whole slew of sites where you can get free music.

This is not the end, just a new beginning.

Thanks for listening and being a part of this.

So here is the deal, I at one time was forced by parents only to listen to christian music, and had to burn albums that were not. After I moved on and out I sold all of the albums (good or not) and had not listened to most of them in 10 years or so. I have a massive collection of disks now and most not in the category of what you posted. You allowed me to fondly reflect on the more talented artists and as a result have over the past several months purchased many albums as a result of your blog..... Get that I bought more because of you. I am grateful and will probably continue to follow the blog without the free music. You have a strikingly similar music collection to me (with some exceptions of course). If you decide to off some of your tooth and nail artists let me know cause they can be hard to find. Thanks again and good luck with the continuing of the post.

Thanks for all that you've done. I understand you're feelings. But at the same time, I feel this is music that too few have heard. Best wishes, I will follow your blog no matter what.

This has been a great blog and I've really enjoy a lot of the music you have here, as well as the fact that you post some actual good christian music, which is a rare commodity. I will continue to read your blog and listen to what you post, thanks for it all!

I will be interested in several of the CDs you have listed here, as there are quite a few I don't have, especially anything Blonde Vinyl or early Frontline releases I'm lacking, as well as some of the more obscure alternative rock from the late 80's and early 90's.

Mike, thanks for honesty, I am a great fan of this blog and of course will continue to follow it with or without free music. I would be also very interested in the items you wish to put up for sale.

Thanks for all the sharing, some of the stuff is really hard to get around here. Only thing I don't fully understand is that you don't consider yourself a christian, yet you spread christian music and urge people to listen and buy music from christian artists. I sincerely hope you will some day. Thx again for all you've done with yr blog and good luck with yr next moves. Godspeed.

I have a great deal of understanding in this.

I no longer consider myself a Christian either, but I feel some sort of strange duty to keep and document this music due to my history with it and the fear that it may be forgotten forever.

I respect your decision greatly and wish you luck as you continue.

Mike,
Your blog has been one of the best Christian music blogs out there. Back last year I tragically lost a majority of my CD collection, including rarities, which was very hard. Since then, I've been able to at least begin to recover some of the music I lost using your blog. I've also discovered artists I've never before heard and downloaded some I couldn't find for sale by the artists or labels anywhere (except used ones). It was only if I could find a site with royalties that I didn't use your site. Thank you for your help and insight to many artists. I'll be back to visit you again even without the downloads. God bless.

I think your intentions are good. And in the end you have to do what you feel is right.

But let me share something you may not have thought of. This music is hard to find or not available. You have helped me find albums that I have searched high and low to find and would have paid for. When artists and record companies no longer offer their albums, what are we who grew up on this music supposed to do?

So, thanks for the service you provided. I don't see anything wrong with posting hard to find music. You rock.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm glad most of you understand my decision. I think that the blog will only get better from here as I take it to a new level.

There will still be free music. That actually won't end just not in the way it's been presented here so far.

I have truly loved your blog Mike, and I thank you for all the work you have put into it over these past several months. I too have found a lot of music that I had not been able to find anywhere else! Let's face it a lot of these artists never did get the backing from their record companies/ and or were 'controversial' and therefore doomed to toiling in obscurity!

I too will continue to follow your blog!

Best wishes,

James

HI Mike,

Thank you for the blog you have run for some time.

I too have enjoyed getting and listening to music, which I didn not even know existed.

I'll keep praying for you.

After all the effort and hard work to put together this great site?!?!?
Hopefully you'll at least leave the Artist/CD listings and your reviews so others can have some perspective on this music, even it it's no longer down loadable. I hadn't heard the music of over half of these artists and many I hadn't even heard of until your blog....and I really didn't understand very clearly all the categories like emo, shoegaze, post-hardcore indie etc.
Mike, thanks for sharing some great music and insights!
Jesus is my Rock! You can trust him too!

Mike;
I want to thank you for all you have done here. You have brought to light many bands that were ignored and not backed by their labels. Many I had not even heard of because I live so far out in the sticks and no radio plays anything like this music.
Thank you for all your hard work and effort. I look forward to what is to come.

Sad to see the change, but I understand as well. I have a blog too, and I post a good number of rare christian releases for anybody interested. Stuff like Seasons in the Field (Zao), Morella's Forest, Narcissus, etc.

Good luck, and I'll keep coming back!

Honorable decision - these old albums will never make it to iTunes, etc if the few who want them have illegally downloaded them leaving no demand.

unfortunate to punish the good ones, I physically have/own many of these in tape format
